Second Avenue creates medical animation for Prentice Hall
Pittsford, NY - November 17, 2006 - Second Avenue Software has completed a series of detailed animated tutorials for educational publisher Prentice Hall.
The tutorials are to be used in the field of pediatric nursing. Individual topics include ventilation, perfusion, acne, and immune response. Several animations depicting the central nervous system were also created.
The complexity of these tools reflects the changes in medical training. Animation enables a medical concept - such as acne - to be demonstrated over time rather than as a static image.
This project was based on research indicating that combining animation with narration within a computer-based learning environment was a more effective teaching approach than narration or onscreen text alone (Dunsworth 2007, Fostering Multimedia Learning of Science: Exploring the Role of an Animated Agent's Image).
Local voice-over talent and recording services were made possible by Mark Gifford at Pomona Productions. Medical illustration and animation were produced by Second Avenue Software.
