How We Work

- Client Needs Assessment
- Second Avenue Software assesses the needs of the client in order to determine the project scope, target audience, technical requirements, and delivery method. This enables us to collaboratively develop the project parameters, including schedule and budget.
- Content Authoring
- Second Avenue Software's subject matter experts (SME) are award-winning teachers and professors at universities such as Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester and Nazareth College. These SMEs, with their broad range of knowledge, are paired with Second Avenue's lead developers, who understand the potential to express this knowledge through digital media. Together, they work with the client to define what the material will be and how to present it.
- Manuscript
- The manuscript – written by the SMEs in conjunction with the lead developers – defines the educational objectives of the software, as well as its narrative and its user functions. A primary objective is to ensure that the SME, developer and client are satisfied with the structure and content of the proposed activity.
- Storyboard
- In this phase, Second Avenue artists and developers create a storyboard based on the manuscript, conveying the appearance and functionality of the interactive. The SME and developer work together in order to reach creative agreement. Software development begins after the client has reviewed and approved the storyboard.
- Alpha Release
- This stage is the first client review of the software components. The core functionality and most of the artwork will be complete. All controls within the individual components will be functional.
- Beta Release
- The beta version of the software should be very close to a final product. This version should address the comments made in the alpha review, and contain any final code implementations.
- Gold Release
- The gold stage is a finished piece of software, incorporating any final comments made in beta review.
- Quality Assurance Testing
- Second Avenue's quality assurance (QA) team prides itself on the quality of its delivered product. To ensure that each deliverable meets our high standards, our QA team carefully reviews the functionality and accuracy of each piece of software before every release – alpha, beta, and gold. Clients are therefore able to concentrate on the overall structure and functionality of the software during each review cycle.
