The Orion Nebula fly-through was created as content for a prototype electronic textbook being developed by McGraw Hill. The stars and gas formations are based on specifications provided by an astrophysics consultant. Second Avenue Software also composed the background music for this animation, and recorded the narration. The animation was created entirely in Maya. Three Quicktime VR interactives were created that allow users to view parts of the Nebula in greater detail. These QTVR's were created by rotating virtual cameras 360 degrees around the subject, and then stitching the final images together in a panorama editor.
