This and other Spectrum Science interactives were created to accompany the 2008 release of a Holt, Rinehart and Winston textbook of the same name. The textbook serves as an introductory survey of all the main branches of science. Each interactive was developed by Second Avenue Software's subject matter experts and instructional designers to supplement the material in the textbook. This particular interactive, Manipulating Light, allows the user to play with a virtual sandbox of mirrors, prisms, and other light-bending objects. The user must direct beams of light to hit targets using different collections of these objects. In doing so, the user learns about reflection, refraction, and the properties of light.
